Additional fundraising efforts address food club funding gaps

As nonprofits, our network member food clubs depend on fundraising activities to maintain financial stability, and each has robust development strategies in place. The recent reduction in government funding, however, will lead to decreased access to fresh food options for families and increased pressure on local farmers, affecting the financial strength of each organization. Despite these challenges, each food club remains committed to supporting their local communities and has implemented additional fundraising initiatives to meet emerging needs.

Lakeshore Food Club is running the Hope Multiplier, targeting to gain 3,000 Champions of Hope giving $30 each month for three months. These multiplying gifts will help local families continue to access fresh, healthy food, support local farmers, and provide stability for future food club planning to improve access for all. By mid-May, more than 220 Champions of Hope had contributed to support the Lakeshore Food Club.

Community Food Club encouraged their neighbors to Refresh & Restock at a community luncheon held on May 21. They explored where the Food Club has been, where it’s heading, and how participants play a role in increasing food security in Kent County. The community responded and helped them surpass their fundraising goal by raising over $82,000. Continued giving will help them serve their record-high 9500 members.

Close the Gap is a Community Action House initiative asking 300 neighbors to donate $30 monthly to cover a potential $150,000 increase in food costs due to paused government funding. The monthly gifts will provide flexible, reliable funding to help them respond to challenges with the same dignified, welcoming service their neighbors trust during critical times of need. By late May, 74 neighbors had already pledged their support.
